Border Collies are consistently ranked as one of the world’s most intelligent dogs. They are rapid learners who are eager to please their owners and try new things. As working dogs, they require lots of physical exercise - a day herding sheep is normal for them, so in a home environment, long walks and runs multiple times a day will be required.
Because of their high mental and physical stimulation needs - if they are not continuously trained, socialised and exercised, they can become destructive and will get into mischief. Like all good sheepdogs, Border Collies tend to herd anything that moves, and are most suited to families with older children. Border Collies form very close bonds with their families and are very loyal.
