Every garment worn in a movie
is considered a costume.
Costumes are one of many
tools the director has to tell the story.
Costumes communicate the details of a
character’s personality to the audience,
and help actors transform into new and
believable people on screen.
Costume Designers create the look of each character by
designing clothes and accessories the actors will wear in the performance.
Depending on their style and complexity, costumes may be made,
bought, revamped out of existing stock, or rented.
Four types of costumes are used in theatrical design:
historical, fantastical, dance, and modern.
