The Chow Chow began as a working dog in China between 2000 and 3000 years ago. They were used to hunt, herd cattle, guard, and pull sleds. There are even paintings from the Tang Dynasty showing Chows relaxing in the emperor's court. Chows have blue-black tongues and share this unusual feature with another Chinese breed, the Shar-Pei. This unique feature has led some experts to believe Chows are one of the original dog breeds first created after the domestication of wolves. Chow Chows come in many colors including red, black, blue, cinnamon, and cream. Although known as an aggressive breed, with proper socialization and training, they will be a perfect furry addition to your family!
