Archery is the sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning bow. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. There are several disciplines within are several disciplines within archery that are recognised and regulated by World Archery, the international federation for archery - including target archery, field archery, 3D archery and indoor archery. There are four main types of bow; the recurve bow, the compound bow, the longbow and the barebow - and all can be used in the various disciplines, although there are different rules for each.
