Resin is often a two component system (consisting of a resin and a hardener) that by mixing begins a chemical reaction, turning the two liquids into a solid plastic. There are three main different types of resin - epoxy, polyurethane and polyester - which have diversified uses in industry and construction however epoxy resin can also be used very strikingly in art.

Resin is a fantastic art medium that can be used to create statement structural pieces (such as a table, coasters, or a lazy susan), hanging wall displays and jewellery, or simply adding a glossy protective layer to artworks. Resin is versatile enough to be used on different materials such as wood, metal and (with the use of a sealant) even photographs. Resin can be coloured and then mixed with a variety of pigments, creating different effects including:
