The Northern lights known as the Aurora Borealis and the Southern lights known as Aurora Australis, are a natural phenomenon that can be seen in the night sky in wintertime. The phenomenon occurs when the particles collide with atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere, transforming kinetic energy into visible light. The southern lights is visible in Antarctica, the Southern Cone, South Africa, Australasia and sometimes as far north as Uruguay. If you want to see the northern lights you should travel to either Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Canada, Alaska or southern Greenland.
