Inspiration Behind Isazisi (Identity)“My designs embody a deep yearning for cultural connection, stemming from my desire to embrace my heritage. Seasonal gatherings during December holidays in rural areas left me craving a stronger bond.
Inspired by the nostalgic melodies and captivating dances of my isiXhosa culture, I embark on a journey to continuously design patterns that weave together fragments of my identity. My artwork, characterized by repeating lines and circles reminiscent of Xhosa attire and ancestral facial art (dot work), reflects unity. These designs bridge my urban life with the traditions of my tribe, creating a bond where I find belonging while honoring the legacy of my people.”
