Organised by local running group Courir à Carcès, this race takes place in the Var region of Provence in the south of France on the first Sunday of April each year. The roads around Carcès lake are closed to traffic to make way for the hundreds of runners taking part in this wonderful 17km race. The steepest kilometre is the first as the runners leave the village; the race is then fairly flat around the lake until the final two kilometres of glorious descent! I may be a little biased as this is where I live, but in my opinion this is one of the best races in the Var, with stunning scenery and a great atmosphere.
