Bubble tea , also known internationally as pearl milk tea or boba tea , is a drink from Taiwanese cuisine based on mostly sweetened green or black tea , which often contains milk and syrup or honey and is often served as iced tea . The special feature of bubble tea, which is drunk with a straw , is the addition of small balls of tapioca or another starch , or popping bobas , colored balls of alginate with a liquid filling that burst when bitten.
