WINTER SOLSTICE IN IRELAND ☘️

Telling time can be a tourist attraction!

Below is a photo at the entrance to the passage at Newgrange , Boyne Valley, Ireland there is an opening called a roof-box. This baffling orifice held a great surprise for those who unearthed it. Its purpose is to allow sunlight to penetrate the chamber on the shortest days of the year, on the December 21st every year, the winter solstice, the accuracy of Newgrange as a time-telling device.

Today the first light enters about four minutes after sunrise, but calculations based on the precession of the Earth show that 5,000 years ago, first light would have entered exactly at sunrise!
