A cherry (genus prunus) is a small, fleshy fruit that contains a hard pit in middle and a skinny, green stem at the top. Cute right? Cherries comes in a variety of colours, ranging from yellow to dark red. The taste of cherries also varies from sweet to sour, appealing to more people's taste palates.
There are so many reasons why I love cherries so much but if I name all the reasons why then you'll be reading forever. So, I'll keep it short. Cherries has a distintive flavour that pairs nicely with a lot of dishes, especially in desserts. Actually a few of my favourite desserts include cherries in them. For instance: cherry bakewell tarts are my favourite tarts, and cherry pie is my favourite pie. Cherries also make for refreshing drinks too. In my cultures, we have different fruit flavoured syrups to mix into Jamaican cocktails, fizzy drinks or to make Bajan snow cones with. Cherry syrup is one of the most popular syrups to use to make the perfect summer cocktail, or the perfect cherryade in the Caribbean. Growing up, cherries has always played a big part in my life. From my mom making cherry crumble to my nanna always having cherries in her fruit bowl. Everytime I get to eat a cherry or have any cherry dessert or beverages a childhood memory is unlocked and I get to relive those nostalgic moments over and over again. This is why I love cherries!
