Hawaii is the world’s largest island chain, and it’s the only U.S. state
completely made up of islands. But only 7 of its 136 islands are
inhabited:
Hawaii (also known as the Big Island), Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu,
Kauai, and Niihau.
The remaining 129 are composed of small islets, atolls (which are coral
islands circling a lagoon), and coral reefs. Each and every island was
formed by hot spots within the Earth’s crust, causing them to rise to the
surface deep in the middle of the Pacific.
Of the 7 inhabited islands, I have had the pleasure of visiting two: Maui
and Kauai. Maui is best known for its beautiful beaches, and Kauai is
known for its lush landscape and cascading waterfalls. Whether you prefer
relaxing on the beach, or exploring every inch of a new place, Hawaii
offers it all. In addition to beautiful scenery and endless adventures,
Hawaii also boasts a rich history and culture, embodied in the spirit of
aloha.
Aloha is a way of living and treating each other with love and respect,
living in harmony with everything around you.
