What is freediving?
Freediving is
like an underwater adventure!
Instead of using air tanks like scuba divers,
freedivers take one big breath and dive into
the water. They swim around, explore, and blend in with the wildlife
without disturbing them. After some time, they surface to rest and take
another breath before diving down again. Freediving is always done in
pairs, with a buddy watching over the other
freediver during their dive. To enjoy
freediving and stay underwater longer, lots of practice and training are
necessary for safety. One way to achieve this is by becoming certified
with the International Association for the Development of Apnea or
AIDA.
What can freedivers do under the water?
Have you heard of underwater hunting?
We have a term for that and
it's called
spearfishing.
Freedivers who engage in spearfishing use a
specialized tool called a spear or speargun to catch fish. They dive
underwater, holding their breath, and search for fish to capture.
Spearfishing is a traditional method of catching fish for food and is an
integral part of many cultures around the world. It also offers a fun
and challenging experience for those passionate about the ocean,
sustainable fishing, and freediving.
