The Camino is a spiritual pilgrimage across Spain. The "traditional" route, the
Camino Frances, begins in St. Jean Pied-du-Port, France, and ends in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, covering a distance of 680km (or 500 miles).
Last summer, I finally had the opportunity to walk the Camino Frances, and it was the most important thing I have ever done in my life.
Although I did not undertake this adventure for explicitly spiritual reasons, the entire experience gave me a complete renewal of my mind, body, and spirit.
Some days gave me the greatest moments I have ever had in my life: literal mountain top experiences, regional wine at dinner with good company, festivals, and meeting people from around the world are just some of the gifts from the Camino.
Of course, just like in life, there were bad days, too: bed bugs, blisters, and insecurities all tried to bring me down.
Even though it was not a perfect adventure, it changed my life for the better. I have a new sense of confidence, I let go of things that were holding me back, I have a new appreciation for my body, and I have a renewed sense of sprituality that I had been missing.
I cannot wait to walk my next Camino.
