Ori is one of the typical dances of Rapa Nui (known as Eastern Island). It expresses emotions and tells stories of the past. We use our hands and arms to describe nature elements while swinging our hips in a figure of eight. It is very fast paced and we follow the rythm of the drums. Each dancer creates his or her own suit using mostly feathers and our jewelry is created with seashells. One interesting fact about Ori is that dancers are required to sing loudly alongside musicians who are positioned at the back of the stage, as opposed to other dance styles.
