The cello (violoncello) is a string instrument of the violin family. It can be bowed, plucked and occasionally hit to produce sound. It has four strings which are tuned in perfect fifths: C2, G2, D3 and A3. Music written for cello is usually written in the bass clef but tenor and treble is often used for higher notes and phrases. There is a large range of cello repetoire including grand solos, quite a few of which was down to the cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich (photo above) who is personally one of my greatest influences in this hobby I enjoy!
