Chess is a board game for two players. It is sometimes called international chess or Western chess to distinguish it from related games such as xiangqi and shogi. Chess is an abstract strategy game that involves no hidden information and no elements of chance. The game also can teach kids other useful life skills, like critical thinking, resilience, perseverance, risk analysis, independence, and how to own up to and learn from their mistakes, says Mike Klein, International Chess Federation Master, and Chief Chess Officer for educational chess learning website ChessKid.com.
