Bachata is a sensual, romantic dance and music style that originated in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s. The dance is a combination of other dances, including Merengue, Son Cubano, and Bolero, and has also been influenced by hip-hop, ballroom, salsa, tango, and more. The music is in 4/4 time, similar to salsa, and is known as "La Musica del Amargue", which means "bitter or sad music".
