Reading 📖

Does reading help you escape reality? 🔮

What reading means to me?

Literature has always been a space where not only myself but young women and men alike have found refuge from the challenges of life. I have been an avid reader since I was thirteen years old and now more than a decade later, I still seek refuge in the books I read. Reading is a way to create an alternate universe to the one we currently live in. Some people specifically seek romance, whilst others fantasy or crime of thriller. There are no limits nor restrictions.

How has reading impacted my overall perspective?

My taste in books and genre have matured as I have grown older. It has allowed me to develop a different sort of awareness when it comes to differentiating fiction from reality. This has been both a positive and a negative, as my idea of love is now 'tainted' by the unrealitistic expectations of my book boyfriends/admirers/crushes. However, sometimes reading said unrealistic novels, has enabled me to become more appreciative of what I do have and what I am experiencing. That sometimes when I look closely, I am living my own fantasy. I have accepted that life will decidely be very different from the novels I read, however, this doesn't have to be a bad thing, I see it as learning/teaching opportunity.

Paper books or Kindle?

As readers, we tend to constantly be on the lookout for new ways to enjoy our books. While for some that means buying hardcover books instead of paperback or finding their favorite titles in limited editions, for others it means embracing what today’s technology can do for improving our reading experience. I don't want to say that I prefer my kindle, but in some ways... I do! for everyday reading, it has become a game changer, it has facilitated the ability to read. However, I do agree that it has removed the novetly of a gorgeous hardcover novel.
