Gone are the days making a quick stop into the nail salon for a simple french manicure or a buff, shape and a swipe of polish. No longer are nails seen as an after thought but are now the focal point. There has been an industry boom and want for nail art. And the wilder and more eye-catching, the better. If you're more on the simplistic side, you can still do a quick one or two coats on your bare nails but the technology and longevity of polish has greatly improven. Now there is gel polish which a newer varitation of polish that after placed upon the nails requires UV lights in order to dry but gives the added benefit of lasting on the nail without chipping. Though acrylic nails have been around for decades, more and more people are wearing them more frequently as an everyday addition to their nails. Even the variety of nail shapes has expanded. There's almond, coffin, oval, square, stiletto, squoval, oval, round, pointed. Nail techs are expected and looked to as artist/designers and use inventive materials like Swarovski crystals, glitter, glass, dip powder, chrome polish, you want it, they'll use it. And many patterns and work inspired by artworks, theres's: zig-zag, squiggles, cow print, African prints, line drawings, rainbows, dots, mix and match, snake skin, splatter, gingham, reverse french manicure, the list goes on.
