Pilates is a type of mind-body exercise developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates uses a combination of around 50 repetitive exercises to spur muscle exertion. Each exercise flows from the "five essentials": breath, cervical alignment, rib and scapular stabilization, pelvic mobility, and utilization of the transversus abdominis.
Pilates is a safe and effective method of rehabilitation and exercise that focuses on muscular balance, improves strength and flexibility. Pilates caters for everyone, from beginner to advanced.
To gain the maximum benefit, you should do Pilates at least 2 or 3 times per week. You may notice some postural improvements just after 10 to 20 sessions!
