The cactus is a member of the plant family Cactaceae. The word "cactus" derives from Latin kaktos, meaning spiny plant whose identity is not certain. A cactus is a plant that lives in dry with little water.
There are about 2,000 types of cacti, and they come in different shapes, sized and colors. The species that are most commonly sold are Echinocactus, Ferocactus, Gymnocalycium, Opuntia and Mamillaria.
Cactus is not always green. It comes in a variety of colors such as: red, yellow, white, purplish or orange.
Cacti are all flowering plants, but some have more prominent blooms and there are a few that will flower quite easily with colourful displays. Cactus flowers can be yellow, red, pink, white, orange or blue.

that can survive long with minimal care, you should consider getting a cactus plant. Indoor cacti may survive for 10 years or more but in the wild cacti can live for hundreads of years.

In the spring/summer, place a cactus in a warm and sunny spot, even outdoors on the patio or balcony. In the fall/winter, the placement should be cooler with more light.
How to water a cactus
Like all living plants, cacti need water to survive. It's best to give more water in spring/summer and less in fall/winter. Water with lukewarm water to prevent shock and avoid over watering. Remember to let the soil to dry out a bit before the next watering.
