Since I was little I always wrote letters. I had family overseas, so
writing and receiving letters was part of my norm. Nowadays with the
advanced technology it's not as common anymore.
I love the nostaglia that's behind it. You write a
letter, post it and then wait. You wait for a response. You usually
don't know when or even if you would receive a reply. I love the
antisipation that writing and posting letters cause.
I still enjoy writing them, but I don't have anybody to send them to
anymore. Would you like to receive a handwritten letter from a random
stranger?
The history of communticating via writing can be tracked since the invention of writing. The actual postal services only came in a few hunderd years ago. According to wikipedia around the 1800s if news had to spread, a carrier will travel to a town and hang up the notice or flyer on the wall of the official building. Usually the mayor or sheriff will have their office there. Later mail sacks were added and the people will come into town to check their mail. Saying that, the earliest surviving piece of mail that was spread with a organized courier was from Egypt, dating to 255BCE.
