What a curious fruit a pineapple is! The pineapple plant is an herb that grows in tropical and subtropical
areas, such as Latin America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and parts of Africa. In addition, most U.S.
grown pineapples still comes from either Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Fun Facts: The name
pineapple in English came from “piña” in Spanish because it looks similar to a pinecone.
Pineapples do not ripen after they have been picked and they are a
good source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Pineapples contain an enzyme called "bromelain," and this
enzyme
breaks down proteins in your mouth, so whenever you eat a pineapple, it is eating you back. 😉
