  1. Better Health

Research consistently shows that health is significantly tied to what we put in our bodies. Plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and lentils are filled with nutrients that our bodies need. Increased consumption of these foods has also shown significant effects on preventing diseases such as cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and even some cancers. Despite this, most Americans are not meeting their recommended intakes of fruits and vegetables. By incorporating more plant-based foods into your diet, and replacing more processed foods, you can set your body up for success in fighting against illness.

  2. Environmental Impact

As most of us have experienced, or at least read about, the Earth is getting warmer. But what we aren't told is that the animal agriculture industry plays a major role in releasing greenhouse gases that pollute our air, water, and destroy our ozone layer. By mass producing livestock for food, we not only release tons of CO2 and methane emissions, but also directly contribute to natural land loss. Deforestation is happening rapidly in order to feed the livestock that we then eat. Not to mention the amount of water required to grow their food, hydrate them, and process their meat. Overall, eating more plants helps to decrease land usage, water usage, and gives the environment a break from greenhouse gas emissions.

  3. Connection to Nature

Eating plant-based isn't only good for your physical well-being and that of the planet's, but also for your mental and spiritual well-being. When we eat more plants, we are directly enjoying the gifts of our soil, of generations of seeds, of the sun and water, and can enjoy these gifts while knowing that we did not contribute any harm or suffering to any creature on Earth. Omitting animals from our diet is a compassionate way to live that also brings us closer to nature through gratitude, wonder, and deep appreciation that we can bring into all aspects of our lives.
