Climate Change Awareness

Ever since my early education introduced me to the critical issue of global warming, my passion for addressing it has only grown. Now, I lead a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the impacts of climate change. Our mission extends to empowering underserved communities by providing education on hydroponic farming techniques and the creation of biogas digesters, offering sustainable solutions for food production and energy needs.

What Is Climate Change?

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. Imagine the Earth as a big, beautiful house we all live in. Now, the climate is like the house's thermostat—it controls how warm or cool it is inside. But here's the thing: imagine someone keeps turning up the heat on the thermostat, making the house hotter and hotter. That's what's happening with climate change.

What Are The Causes?

Human actions have overwhelmingly fueled climate change, largely through the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. When these fuels burn, they release greenhouse gases that behave like a thick blanket encircling the Earth, trapping heat from the sun and elevating temperatures. The primary culprits among these greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide and methane, which stem from activities like driving cars that run on gasoline or heating buildings with coal.

What Is The Solution?

Transitioning our energy systems from fossil fuels to renewable sources like solar or wind power is crucial for reducing the emissions responsible for driving climate change. However, it's imperative that we take action immediately. While an increasing number of countries are pledging to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, we need to halve emissions by 2030 to limit warming to below 1.5°C. Fortunately, many solutions to climate change offer not only environmental benefits but also economic advantages and improvements to our quality of life. Moreover, we have global frameworks and agreements in place to guide our progress, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the Paris Agreement. These provide essential guidance and collaboration opportunities to address climate change effectively on a worldwide scale.
