Visit Lake Kariba

World's Largest Man-Made Dam

Lake Kariba, the world's largest artificial lake, formed by the Kariba Dam between 1958 and 1963, spans 223 kilometers in length on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border. It induced seismicity in the region, creating islands like Maaze and Mashape . The lake's ecology, featuring diverse fish species like kapenta, supports a thriving commercial fishery and tourism, despite challenges such as poaching affecting wildlife in areas like the Matusadona National Park, part of Zimbabwe's designated Recreational Park.
