A parakeet is any one of many small to medium-sized
species of parrot, in multiple genera, that generally have long tail
feathers.
In American English, the word parakeet usually refers to the
budgerigar. The budgerigar is a species of parakeet. They are
notoriously good talkers. But their voices are very soft and they tend
to talk rapidly so you might not recognize the fact that your budgie
does indeed have a wonderful vocabulary.
