Explained briefly, scuba diving is a water sport that involves breathing
air from a tank while underwater. Scuba is an acronym for:
Self
Contained
Underwater
Breathing
Apparatus
Most scuba divers are recreational divers who explore underwater
environments such as lakes, rivers, quarries, kelp forests and coral
reefs. There are also people who scuba dive for work including public
safety divers, marine biologists and many others.
Scuba diving is great for people who love to travel. If you want it to, it can certainly remain a local endeavor. However, it's more likely exploring the underwater world will take you to the far reaches of the world. Want to dive with sharks in the Bahamas? Want to see WWII wrecks in Micronesia? Colorful coral reefs in Indonesia? It’s all within your capabilities when, at the very least, you become a qualified PADI Open Water Diver.
