Batoidea is a superorder of cartilaginous fishes, commonly known as rays. They and their close relatives, the sharks, comprise the subclass Elasmobranchii. There are around 600 species of manta rays around the world! The spotted eagle rays, electric rays and manta rays are just a few. Rays are distinguished from sharks by a flattened, disklike body, with the five gill openings and the mouth generally located on the underside.
