The pros and cons of having a rabbit as a house pet
Rabbits are amazing, affectionate and social pets. They can be great
house pets if you take the time to socialise them and learn about their
basic body language. However, rabbits require a lot more care than
people typically expect, so it's important to be prepared before
bringing home a new bunny.
Pros
Great for those in small spaces
Having a rabbit as a pet is perfect for those who may not have the
space for a larger pet, but still seek the social quality of a
dog-like companion. And, like cats, rabbits can be litter box trained
very
easily. It's the best of both worlds!
Rabbits are crepuscular
Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and at
dusk. This matches up perfectly for those who work during the day, as
you can spend time with your rabbit before and after work when they
are awake. During working hours they'll be lounging around and
sleeping!
Rabbits have a long lifespan
With a proper diet and care, rabbits live around 10-12 years — much
longer than other small animals!
Cons
Owning a rabbit can be expensive
The price of rabbits is much cheaper than a cat or dog, but there are
a lot of financial expenses that come with rabbit ownership that most
people aren't aware of. Food, toys, bedding, annual vaccinations and
vet checkups all add up — not to mention the initial cost for
rabbit-proofing your home and desexing!
Rabbits will chew on everything
Rabbits have teeth that never stop growing throughout their lives, so
they need to chew on things to keep them from overgrowing. Rabbits
will chew on everything from your carpet, baseboards and furniture
through to your electrical wires and applicances. To keep your rabbit
(and your items) safe, you will need to rabbit-proof your home.

Rabbits have a complicated diet
You can't just give rabbits a bowl full of kibble, like you can for a
cat or a dog. Rabbits have a very sensitive digestive system that
requires a very specific diet, consisting mainly of unlimited
grass-based hay.
