Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It's known for beautiful tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew). Nearby beach resorts include bustling Pattaya and fashionable Hua Hin.
The official population is approximately the same as the United Kingdom. In the 2020 census, Thailand’s population was recorded as 66.19 million. The UK’s population in 2019 was 66.79 million.
Covering an area of 513,120 sq km, Thailand is a similar size to France and around twice the size of the United Kingdom.
