"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude β
as far as is possible and practicable
β all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food,
clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the
development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of
animals, humans and the environment.
In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products
derived wholly or partly from animals."
Why go Vegan?
The 3 main reasons:
For your health
You can get, with a well-planned vegan diet,
all the nutrients
that our bodies need. The vegan diet is suitable for
every age and stage of life.
There is research that has linked vegan diets with lower blood
pressure and cholesterol, and lower rates of heart disease, type 2
diabetes and some types of cancer
For the animals
Non-human Animals have
the right to the Five Freedoms
(frequently used to measure welfare): from hunger, thirst and
malnutrition; from pain, injury and disease; from discomfort; from
fear and distress; to express natural behaviour.
Look how cute they are!! π
For the
environment
The production of meat and other animal products places a heavy burden
on the environment - from crops and water required to feed the
animals, to the transport and other processes involved from farm to
fork. The vast amount of grain feed required for meat production is a
significant contributor to deforestation, habitat loss and species
extinction.
