An
empanada
is a type of baked or fried turnover consisting of pastry and filling,
common in Spain, other Southern European, Latin American countries, and
the Philippines. Unlike Argentinian empanadas, which are made with wheat
flour and baked in the oven, Colombian empanadas are made with corn
flour and fried, giving them a deeper colour, a unique texture and
cripsier exterior.
