Richard Thombs's Story

👉🏼 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease 👈🏼

A nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. The disease can happen to anyone. In this disease, nerve cells break down, which reduces functionality in the muscles they supply. The cause is unknown. The main symptom is muscle weakness. Medication can slow ALS & reduce discomfort, but there's no cure.

There are no defined stages of ALS however the progression of the disease is divided into three stages: Early, Middle & Late.

My father suffered for five years with this horrible disease that finally took his life on May 10th 2023. ALS took everything from my father, a horrible disease with no cure. On July 4th my sister, my mom & I were invited to be a part of The New York Yankees ALS Day. July 4th was a truly amazing day. The Yankees beat the Orioles 8 to 4. 8 minus 4 is 4, 4 is Lou Gehrig's number. The first number to be retired from baseball.
