GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ

Cien años de soledad

Gabriel García Márquez, affectionately known as Gabo, was born in 1927 in Aracataca, Colombia. In 1965, he was a writer living in Mexico City. He was mostly unknown beyond literary circles in Mexico and Colombia. For almost two decades, he struggled to become a full-time fiction writer. In 1967, the publication of One Hundred Years of Solitude [Cien años de soledad] and its ensuing international success transformed its author into one of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.
