Cats are amazing animals. Though they are known these days as tame,
friendly animals that live in our houses, they used to be wild. In fact,
there are still many different varieties of wild cats in the world. Even
your tame, purring lapcat is related to big cats like tigers, lions, and
cheetahs!

Cats were first kept as pets of convenience - they would help to hunt
vermin like mice and insects to keep homes, foodstocks and children
safe. Humans quickly realised that cats made excellent companions as
well as hunters and we've never looked back!

- Most ginger cats are male - around 80%!
- Ginger cats can get freckles, just like humans
- Ginger cats are known for being more talkative - meow!
- A ginger cat was one a mayor! In 1998, Stubbs the cat was elected mayor of Talkeetna in Alaska!
