Cities: Skylines is a 2015 city-building game developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. The game is a single-player open-ended city-building simulation. Players engage in planning by controlling zoning, road placement, taxation, public services, and public transportation of an area . They also work to manage various elements of the city, including its budget, health, employment, traffic, and pollution levels. It is also possible to maintain a city in a sandbox mode, which provides creative freedom for the player .
While playing PC games is not something I do often, I enjoy playing this
game as it allows me to be
creative and use strategy to build fully functioning, profitable
cities
. While it is just a simulation, I believe I have gained a greater
insight into what it takes to make a city function and it has also
caused me to appreciate real life cities even more as I can only imagine
what it takes to build and maintain a city in real life. I also have a
profound appreciation for architecture and city planning in general, so
this game allows me to indulge in that without paying for an expensive
college degree to learn how to do that.
I also love the Cities: Skylines community and have found most people to
be incredibly supportive as you learn how to build better cities.
Additionally, there are many talented players with several enviable
projects that took months to build.I enjoy watching
them work as I find their videos entertaining and inspiring.
Here are a few players that have inspired me throughout the years. Click below to see my favourite projects!
If you want to try the game for yourself, check out the newest release, Cities: Skylines 2. Available on PC and Xbox.
