The main sacred texts of Hinduism are the Vedas . It is said that Bharatanatyam was devised as a way to easily communicate the life lessons and concepts found in the Vedas through dance and drama. Bharatanatyam has the nine navarasas , or nine emotions. They are love, happiness, angry, compassion, disgust, fear, courage, surprise, and peace.
