The aerial hoop (also known as the Lyra) is a
circular steel apparatus like a hula hoop that is a fixed shape, rigged
and suspended from the ceiling. On this, artists can perform acrobatics,
incorporating holds, hangs and dynamic movements into routines, requiring
full body strength. Moves can be done underneath, inside and above the
apparatus.
Due to the rigidity of the equipement, it can often be painful to start
with when getting your body used to the movements. It can be used static,
spinning, or swinging and creates a striking frame for the performer.
