Lampworking is the art of melting glass rods with a torch. The word lamp comes from the fact that at one stage gas lamps were used to melt the glass. It is also sometimes called flameworking. It's unclear when the origins of lampworking date back to, One of the earliest productions of glass beads has been traced to the Ancient Egyptians. Lampworking is a very fun and creative hobby as there are so many things you can make out of glass including beads, marbles, sculptures and small vessels. There is such an incredible variety of what glass artists have made, you'll be both amazed and inspired.
