Knitting Love

Finding peace in the classic fiber art

I fell in love with knitting immediately when my mother taught me and I made my first ever scarf in a basic garter stitch.
It's a wonderful way to wind down after a long day; a moment of quiet and solitude in an ever-noisy and always-connected modern world. It is a lovely touch of old world handicraft and tactile joy to add to your life.

It's also a great activity when you have a furry friend to cuddle on the couch with.

What is knitting? Knitting is a way to produce textile fabrics by interlacing yarn loops between each other, called "stitches," with the help of knitting needles. It is a versatile method of creating beautiful works of fiber art that is steeped in all kinds of history and culture, from Fair Isle sweaters to cozy afghans.

DID YOU KN🧶W?
Knitting was originally considered men's work in Europe. Early on, knitting was reserved only for men via exclusive guilds. After the invention of the knitting machine and hand-knitting became more of a leisure activity rather than necessity, it slowly lost this association with being a male task.

What are the benefits? Aside from producing wonderful pieces that you can wear and gift to friends and family, studies have shown that the rhythmic and repetitive action of hand knitting can help prevent and manage stress, pain, and depression, which in turn strengthens the body's immune system (link) and it's even been linked to reducing the risk of developiong Alzheimer's and dementia!
