Swing dance is a group of social dances that developed with the swing
style of jazz music in the 1920s–1940s, with the origins of each dance
predating the popular "swing era". Hundreds of styles of swing dancing
were developed; those that have survived beyond that era include Lindy
Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, and Charleston. Today, the best-known of
these dances is the Lindy Hop, which originated in Harlem in the early
1930s. While the majority of swing dances began in African-American
communities as vernacular African-American dances, some influenced
swing-era dances, like Balboa, developed outside of these communities.

Don't know what to expect?
Do I need to bring a partner?
No, although you are welcome to if you know someone willing! Most
swing classes rotate partners around so that you have a chance to
dance with many different people. Swing is a social dance style after
all!
I'm a complete beginner- how do I know if a class will be right for
me?
Most beginners classes assume absolutely no prior experience.
Everything begins with a basic step which is broken down by the
teachers. You will have plenty of time to practice and by the end of
your first lesson will be able to do a short routine!
What is the best way to find out if swing dance is for you?
Give it a go!
