Animal Crossing is an ongoing social simulation video game series first developed and published by Nintendo in 2001. The series was created by Katsuya Eguchi and Hisashi Nogami.

In Animal Crossing, the player character is a human who lives in a village inhabited by various anthropomorphic animals, carrying out various tasks such as fishing, bug catching, and fossil hunting. Completing tasks can earn the player currency (called Bells) for paying off their housing loan or garner friendship points when completed for other villagers. The latest installment of the series is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released for Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020, and ups the ante of starting a new life by placing the protagonist on a deserted island. 🌴
