Origins

Volleyball is a team sport played on a court by two teams of six players, separated by a net. The game was originally called ā€œMintonetteā€, a name derived from the game of badminton, because of its likeness to the sport. Invented in 1895 in Massachusetts (USA), by William G. Morgan, a YMCA physical education director and a student at Springfield College. Learn more about Volleyball volleyball-court

Rules and Scoring

The team that wins the pre-game coin toss gets the opportunity to serve the ball first. The aim of the server is to hit the ball over the net from behind the baseline over to the oppositionā€™s team half to start a rally. Teams are allowed a maximum of three consecutive touches. According to rules of volleyball, matches are best-of-three-set contests. The first three sets are played till one team scores 25 points and if the teams are tied at two sets each after set four, the fifth set is played to 15 points. Each rally is played for a point and the team that wins the rally and scores a point gets to serve for the next point. If the game is tied at 24-24, or 14-14 in the fifth set, the set continues till one team builds a two-point lead over the other. Learn about the rules

Setters

female-setter

Setters are arguably one of the most valuable players, because they are responsible for setting up the offence by setting the ball (usually the second touch)for the hitters to make a point. They have to work on the tempo with the hitters, be skillfull, incredibly accurate and need to have great vison of the both teams and choose the best offensive option.
