The Belladonna takes inspiration from the 17th century italian poison
Aqua Tofana. Aqua Tofana was allegedly made and sold by Giulia Tofana
in Palermo and then eventually in Naples, Rome and Perugia. Legend has
it that when MOzart fell seriously ill and he began to speak of death,
he was convinced someone had him poisoned with Aqua Tofana. The poison
was colourless and odourless, and it would kill a man with a slow
death, hence its popularity during the dark periods where women were
considered chattels to be auctioned off into marriages. The Absinthe
rinse, Vodka, Cocchi Americano and Rosolio di Bergamotto are the
ingredients that give Belladonna its boldness, while the Marendry
gives the Belladonna its distinctive taste. Bold and elegant. The
paint is made by mixing the Amarena syrup and Marendry with Xantham
Gum, and gives the Belladonna an elegant finish and sweet taste, if
drunk on that side. The Amarena used to garnish the Belladonna, were
first created by Lady Rachele, a woman so loved by her husband, he
celebrated her Amarena recipe with the very first white and blue jar
of Amarena, starting a new venture, producing the bespoke Amarena
Fabbri.
