Otters are carnivorous mammals in the subfamily Lutrinae. The 13
extant otter species are all semiaquatic, aquatic, or marine, with
diets based on fish and invertebrates. Lutrinae is a branch of the
Mustelidae family, which also includes weasels, badgers, mink, and
wolverines, among other animals.
⚠️ They are also known for being super cute⚠️.
Did you know? Otters hold each other by the paw not to get lost in the water stream. And they love eating food off their tummies.
Unfortunately, due to human activities, otter populations are in
danger.
Direct conflict with humans, through shootings, fishing gear
entanglements and boat strikes, take a toll on sea otters, but oil
spills, pollution, disease and loss of kelp pose major threats.
