AMAPIANO

To The World

The South-African music genre that's taking the world by storm

The music genre amapiano emerged from the townships of South Africa in the mid 2010s. It is a mix of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterised by synths, log-drum driven basslines and soulful piano melodies. Vocals are mostly sang in Zulu and Xhosa, two of South Africa's many native tongues. A lot of the songs start out with a very similar bassline, then evolve uniquely over the course of 6 minutes on average, meaning you need patience to appreciate the genre. Seeping out of car windows and overflowing from clubs, amapiano is influencing dance and making a huge impact on the afro music industry.
