Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a
building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing
environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is
someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such
enhancement projects.
There are various paths that one can take to become a professional
interior designer. All of these paths involve some form of training.
Working with a successful professional designer is an informal method
of training and has previously been the most common method of
education. In many states, however, this path alone cannot lead to
licensing as a professional interior designer. Training through an
institution such as a college, art or design school or university is a
more formal route to professional practice.
