"As many languages you know, as many times you
are a human being"
Czech proverb
Here are some foreign languages I am aspiring to learn:
English: the most widely spoken language in the world, used as a first or
second language by over 1.5 billion people. The English language
boasts one of the largest vocabularies of any language, with estimates
ranging from 170,000 to over 1 million words. New words are constantly
added to the dictionary each year to keep up with cultural,
technological, and scientific changes.
German: often referred to as "Deutsch," is a West Germanic language that is
the official language of Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein, and is
one of the official languages of Switzerland and Luxembourg. German is
known for its grammatical complexity, particularly its use of
grammatical cases, gendered nouns, and compound words. It has a rich
literary and cultural heritage, with influential works of literature,
philosophy, and science written in German.
French: known as "français," is a Romance language that traces its origins
back to the Latin spoken in ancient Rome. It is one of the most widely
spoken languages in the world and is the official language of numerous
countries, including France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, and many
countries in Africa and the Caribbean. French was the language of the
European aristocracy for centuries and played a significant role in
international diplomacy until the 20th century. French is often
considered the language of diplomacy, as it is widely used in
international organizations like the United Nations and the European
Union.
Japanese: known as "日本語" (Nihongo) in Japanese, is an East Asian language
spoken primarily in Japan.Japanese has a unique writing system that
combines three scripts: kanji (Chinese characters), hiragana, and
katakana.Kanji are logographic characters borrowed from Chinese and
represent complex words or concepts. Hiragana and katakana are
syllabic scripts used for native Japanese words and foreign loanwords,
respectively. Japanese places great importance on politeness and
social hierarchy.
Mandarin: often referred to simply as "Chinese," is the most widely spoken
language in the world. It is the official language of China and Taiwan
and is one of the four official languages of Singapore. Due to China's
economic growth and global reach, Mandarin is increasingly becoming a
valuable language for business, trade, and cultural exchange. Pinyin
is the official Romanization system used to represent Mandarin sounds
using the Latin alphabet. It helps learners and non-native speakers
pronounce Mandarin accurately.
